What NOT to do on Twitter! | How to build your business using Twitter.

Are you building your business using Twitter?

Twitter Marketing

If so I wrote an article about using Twitter which you can view by clicking here.

What NOT to do on Twitter.

This post is just a quick one that I wanted to write to guide people on what NOT to do. Most of us use some type of auto messaging client like SocialOomp, Tweet Adder, Twitter Feed, etc. I use Tweet Adder which has allowed me to go from ZERO followers to over 1,351 TARGETED Twitter followers in less than 2 months! That’s a lot of leads to follow up with. There are a lot of people on Twitter that are seeking information, and a lot of TWEEPS to push into my List Building activities by sending them great content, providing value, training etc. If your interested in Tweet Adder there is a banner to the right hand side of this page with more information and a free trial. It’s also in the MY TOOLS section of this site.

So here is what NOT to do: DO  NOT PITCH PEOPLE ON YOUR PRIMARY OPPORTUNITY WITHOUT BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP!

Sounds crazy huh? Your trying to use Twitter to build YOUR primary business. So why can’t you pitch them on your primary opportunity? Well because it’s a huge turn off, and an easy way to get UN-followed by your followers! If you haven’t studied the concepts of Magnetic Sponsoring then get a free video about it by clicking here.

Basically those of us that are aware of Attraction Marketing/Magnetic Sponsoring understand that we are to lead with content, value, and we are to build a relationship with all of our prospects. The internet has facilitated the prospecting process for most of us. However, if your using  Twitter to build your business online and your not building a relationship first then chances are you will never build an online business.

This individual sent me a direct message on Twitter telling me that he gets 100% of his commissions, and asking me how much I get. I always REPLY!

"Click The Image For Full Screen"

So WHY do I reply? Well for one thing it tells me the sender of the message is probably not getting the results on Twitter he desires. Chances are he is open to suggestions and assistance from ME.. (Remember it’s better to be invited in by your prospect than to have to knock on the door in hopes they open it) I may NEVER be able to bring this person into my opportunity with Momentis or Numis Network. However, I am okay with that because that’s not my intention. I don’t pitch people first, then try to help especially on Twitter. I help first and let them pitch themselves on working with me and having me as a leader. This second individual was pitching Empower Network as well! If you don’t know what it is then don’t bother googling it! The only thing you will find is a lot of “Reviews” about how awesome it is written by people trying to get you to sign up for it under their downline. I haven’t written a review about it yet because I haven’t had time, but I will soon. In the meantime here is an honest review by my friend Michelle Pescosolido which can be found here.

Here is another example of someone pitching me on Empower Network:

So what should you do to get Twitter to be an endless source of leads for your business? Do the OPPOSITE of everyone else! Seems simple but it works!

1. Send an auto message thanking them for following you! Use an open ended question to initiate dialog between you and them. A ton of people use automation software but those that are active will reply to you. That should be your first clue that they are open for dialog.

2. Respond to their messages. There is no point in using Twitter and having automation if your not going to work the responses. Those are your potential leads!

3. Don’t spam Twitter with random capture pages. Provide articles, content, and information and the PROSPECT will decide whether or not to give you their contact information. If your content isn’t good enough then they will not provide you their contact information. I use MLSP to provide FREE training to my leads on twitter and it works. The free Twitter training I provide my leads can be located by clicking HERE.

Need More Twitter Followers?

Use a search with keywords that are relevant to your business to grow your Twitter follower base. I am in Network Marketing/Online Marketing and my primary business is in the home services industry.

Below is an example of how I use Twitter for prospecting. Notice how I used Tweet Adder to build my follower base using targeted keyword traffic. I also have a set mile radius on Twitter depending on the keywords. For example if my target Twitter follower is someone in my competition such as AMBIT, I do a local 100 mile search. Chances are they are in my area. I can target them and work one on one with them locally. For other searches I do a 500 mile radius to increase my pool of prospects in a more generalized keyword such as “Self Employed” which allows me to market my affiliate products to them.

Also here is an example of what I use as my personal “Thank You” messages for my Twitter followers.

Notice how it’s an open ended question. You would be surprised how much information people send me. They tell me what they do, if they are married, where they are from, if they have kids, etc. This allows me to really form a relationship with my followers and offer them my assistance. Twitter works but only if  YOU know how to work it! Check out my Free Training section on this site to get some Free Twitter training!

BEWARE: Pinterest may be INTERESTED in YOUR affiliate commissions..

Pinterest

Pinterest may be INTERESTED in your commissions!

So I was doing some research on Pinterest today.

Reason being that I wanted to write an article on what Pinterest actually IS..

It’s a fairly new social media platform that is predominately by invite only. As Network Marketers we provide content, and in most cases write articles regarding what is new to the online marketing scene.

I was about this far:

Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, curate, and discover new interests by posting, also known as ‘pinning,’ images or videos to their own or others’ pinboards

(i.e. a collection of ‘pins,’ usually with a common theme). Users can either upload images from their computer or pin things they find on the web using the pinterest bookmarklet, pin it button, or just a url.

When I came across this excerpt from Hubspot.com:

What’s particularly fascinating about Pinterest is that while in beta, it is already making money.
That’s especially surprising for a social networking site.

What’s even more interesting is that the way it’s monetizing is not based on advertising or subscriptions.

If your website is using an affiliate program, you should take note, because that is how Pinterest is making its dough: by taking a cut of your sales from pinned traffic.

Alexis Madrigal, a senior
editor at The Atlantic, explains:
They partnered with a firm called SkimLinks, which automatically
scans through every link posted on the site to see if it goes to a
retail site with an affiliate program. If it finds that kind of link, it
secretly adds an affiliate code that ensures Pinterest will make
some cash from sales that derive from that link.

This in of itself might not be bad practice, but the fact that Pinterest hasn’t disclosed this
information outright definitely is. Many bloggers and marketers out there are complaining about
the lack of communication from Pinterest on its business model.

Hmmm sounds kinda fishy to me… What’s the deal Pinterest? Why no disclaimer?

What do you guys/gals think? I want to know your thoughts regarding this article. Leave a comment below!
